Rajanganaya Track 1, 3 and 5 declared isolated zones

14 Jul 2020

Tracks one, three, and five of Rajanganaya have now been declared isolated zones, restricting entry and exit for outsiders, to ensure the infection does not spread to other areas through the persons who have been advised to self-quarantine, Director General Health Service (DGHS) Dr. Anila Jasinghe revealed. “The super-spreader activity could have been curtailed had the staffer from the Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre in Kandakadu that returned to Rajanganaya on holiday followed the Covid-19 prevention health guidelines that were communicated throughout these months. The non-adherence to such guidelines has then risked the health and wellbeing of persons and children who attended the said patient’s family funeral and the alms giving later on. This is a very good example that the Covid-19 virus is very much present and that the country is still at risk of having grave impacts due to non-adherence to health and precaution guidelines,” Dr. Jasinghe explained. The public is urged to follow the basic health guidelines such as washing or sanitising hands, wearing masks, maintaining physical distancing, and following respiratory etiquette of covering your mouth and nose from the back of your elbow when coughing or sneezing. The Covid-19 cluster in Kandakadu yesterday (13) reported 14 new cases, bringing the total number of active Covid-19 cases in the country to 639 as of 5 p.m. yesterday, the Health Promotion Bureau of the Ministry of Health recorded. On 12 July, a total of 2,251 persons had been subjected to PCR tests following the contact tracing that took place after the Kandakadu cluster was activated on 7 July. Furthermore on 12 July, 106 Covid-19-positive cases were recorded by the Epidemiology Unit.
