Rajitha further remanded until 10 June

27 May 2020

The Colombo Additional Magistrate's Court  has decided to further remand former Minister Rajitha Senaratne until 10 June. The decision on his bail application is to be announced on the same day (June 10th). Senaratne was arrested and produced before Court on the 13th of May after the Colombo High Court rejected the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s bail order on Senaratna. Subsequently, the former Minister was ordered to be remanded until today (27th May) by the Colombo Chief Magistrate. However, when the case was taken up today, the Colombo Chief Magistrate decided to transfer Senaratne’s bail application to another Court on the request of the Attorney General . In December last year, Senaratne was arrested and remanded over ‘white van’ media briefing held in November. On 30 December, Colombo Magistrate’s Court ordered the release of Senaratne. However, the Attorney General filed a revision application on January 08 challenging the decision of the Magistrate’s Court to grant bail to Senaratne.
