18 Jan 2021

Former Minister Rajitha Senaratne and two others were indicted in the Colombo High Court today over the Modara fisheries harbour leasing out case. The Bribery Commission filed the case against the three accused alleging that the government incurred heavy losses when the Modara fisheries harbor was leased out. The indictment was handed over before Colombo High Court Judge Pradeep Hettiarachchi. Following the handing over of the indictments, the Judge ordered the release of Senaratne and the two other suspects on personal bail of Rs. 1 million each. The Judge then ordered that the defendants' fingerprints be taken and a report of their previous offenses be called. Defendants' attorneys asked the court to look into the deficiencies in the documents handed over to their clients and requested the court for a date to report the facts. The Judge granted the request and ordered the case to be heard on April 22.
