Rallies and parades banned

Holding rallies and parades has been banned until a week after the announcement of the final results of the parliamentary election, the Police announced yesterday (6).

Highlighting Sections 69 and 70 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, Police Legal Division Director SSP Ruwan Gunasekara told the media at a special briefing held at the Police Headquarters that the ban will remain in place for another week after all the results of the parliamentary election are released and the final results are declared.

He added that such provisions have been made to further maintain peace after the election.
SSP Gunasekara called on the people to respect those laws and maintain peace during the postelection period.
