Random search operations in Colombo

20 Oct 2019

Random search operations were conducted in Colombo and its suburbs last week after rumours spread of a threat to national security. The Police and Army conducted separate search operations in several areas in Colombo last week. Military Spokesman Brigadier Sumith Atapattu told The Sunday Morning that random search operations had been conducted continuously by the military after the terror attack on Easter Sunday to ensure public security. “The security for all churches had also been continuously provided and there was no sense of relaxation since the Easter attacks,” he said. Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera requested the public not to leave their vehicles parked unattended on roadsides without the contact details of the owner being placed in a visible location. He also requested drivers to inform the Police Emergency Unit if they were forced to abandon their vehicle due to a breakdown. SP Gunasekera said the decision was taken after considering several concerns reported to the Police recently.
