Ranil says he has not called for UN Peacekeepers

29 Oct 2018

United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe denied reports that he has called for the UN Peacekeeping force to be deployed to Sri Lanka. He said that a forged letter was circulating to that effect but he insisted he had not made such a request. There have been claims made that China was funding Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to buy the support of some UNP members. Asked about this at a media conference today, Wickremesinghe refused to comment on the allegation. However he said the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka informed him that China will not interfere. The Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Cheng Xueyuan met Wickremesinghe after he was removed as Prime Minister.
