United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe said he would not participate in the launch of the Samagi Jana Balavegaya scheduled to take place today.
Speaking to reporters yesterday (1) Wickramasinghe said even though he had been invited for the launch as leader of the UNP, he will not attend the ceremony as outstanding issues with regard to the alliance had not yet been addressed.
During the special UNP Working Committee meeting held at Sirikotha –UNP Headquarters yesterday, a majority of members had agreed to contest the forthcoming parliamentary polls under the elephant symbol.
However, the Sajith Premadasa's faction has not agreed to the decision.
UNP-led alliance, ‘Samagi Jana Balavegaya’ will sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with political parties and civil society organizations during its launch today at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre in Colombo.
