The Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) kicked off its 100th Club Championship, on 27 November. The Championship came to an end on 5 December with men’s defending champion Yannik Kumara successfully retaining the title.
Kumara advanced to the final after beating Husni Uvais while Rusi Captain beat Chandana Gunasekera to set up a repeat of last year’s final. But, it was Kumara who once again outwitted the veteran.
In the ladies semi-finals, defending champion Kayla Perera beat Yun Jeong Choi, whilst Kaya Daluwatte got the better of an experienced Niloo Jayathilake. However, the defending champion was not up to her best as Daluwatte dethroned Perera and took the crown.
More than 150 golfers took part in the centenary championship while the tournament was conducted under strict health guidelines.
The late P.I.N. Fernando still holds the record for the most number of wins, with 19 titles, while this year’s finalist Rusi Captain is second with 14 wins in the men’s segment. In the ladies’ segment, Anouk Chitty has won the championship a record eight times.
