Demands to reconvene parliament not discussed

04 May 2020

Government Spokesperson and former MP Keheliya Rambukwella said the meeting called by the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today did not touch on the matter of reconvening parliament. Rambukwella further noted that even the matters related to the General elections were not taken up during the session. "The entire discussion was lead by Director General of Health Services, Dr. Anil Jasinghe," Rambukwella added. He added that some MPs pointed out certain shortcomings in certain areas of the Covid-19 eradication campaign. Main Opposition parties such as the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), and the United National Party (UNP), boycotted today's meeting calling it a futile exercise. However, The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) attended the meeting and offered support to the Government to address key national issues.
