Even though red notice electricity bills have been issued to several persons, The Morning learns that genuine cases will be taken up and concessions will be granted. While speaking to The Morning, Secretary to the Ministry of Power Wasantha Perera confirmed the same. "The board is facing equal difficulties, and we have been giving concessions to the people. But now it has become difficult and the red notice bills had to be issued. Whereas, we have informed the respective area offices to grant concessions to those who genuinely have payment issues," said Ms Perera. Further, she stated that many people have taken advantage of the pandemic situation and have not paid bills, yet the area offices have been kind enough not to disconnect lines, whereas people who are in genuine need are then inconvenienced due to this. "For those who are in genuine need, they must contact the area office. An easy payment plan can be organised based on the track record of the applicant and an installment plan can be arranged," Perera confirmed. Ms Perera confirmed that this applies to both Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and Lanka Electricity Company (LECO) users.
