"Regular demonstrations have disrupted my work" - President

28 Feb 2020

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today said that regular demonstrations in front of the Presidential Secretariat have disrupted his day to day work. Rajapaksa expressed these views during an event organised by the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) today. He said that he was unable to look into policy related tasks and major issues facing the country due to constantly having to address demands of the protestors. "As President I have to allocate more time for policy related decisions and improving the efficiency of the government sector." He further added that Ministry Secretaries should take the responsibility in addressing demands related to their respective ministries. The government recently designated an ‘Agitation Site’ near the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo for the public to carry out protests and demonstrations and to be able to air their grievances to the President.
