Relief programme to be implemented for Ampahn cyclone-affected farmers

The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to implement a programme to provide relief to affected farmers of the Ampahn cyclone in Jaffna which lasted for 4 days from 16 to 19 May 2020.

ln accordance with the proposal of the Minister of Fisheries, the programme is to be implemented by the Cabinet of Ministers, in coordination with the Ministry of Disaster Management, Ministry of Agriculture and the Jaffna District Secretariat. lt was also decided to provide an additional allocation of Rs. 52.98 million through the Ministry in charge of Disaster Management.

The Ampahn Cyclone caused severe damages to banana and papaya plantations of 2374 farmers in Kopay, Thellipalai and Karawatti Divisional Secretariats in Jaffna District. According to the Jaffna District Secretary, the total loss was Rs. 52.98 million.
