Removal of propaganda material: Police to bear Rs. 58 m

By Sarah Hannan The budgetary allocation to remove illegal propaganda material such as posters and cutouts of political candidates and parties has amounted to Rs. 58 million, the Police Media Unit said. The Police have assigned over 1,000 individuals to carry out the task of removing unlawful propaganda material as well as posters put up islandwide. Each of the individuals taken for the task is to be paid a daily wage. “1,354 persons have been recruited to carry out the tasks in 494 police stations across the country and each labourer is to be paid a daily wage of Rs. 1,058.33. Each district headquarters will have four labourers assigned and the rest will be assigned according to the workload,” Police Media Spokesperson SSP Jaliya Senaratne told The Morning.
