Around 300 Sri Lankans are to be repatriated on a weekly basis commencing this week, The Sunday Morning learnt.
“We have planned to bring down one flight a week with expatriate Lankans,” Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) Director – Media R.K.K.M.P. Randeniya told The Sunday Morning.
He said the Covid-19 Task Force would monitor the ground situation and take further decisions.
“The Task Force will observe and decide on whether to increase the frequency of flights, etc.”
Randeniya also revealed that around 30% of those waiting to return had lost their jobs.
“Around 15,000-18,000 have lost their jobs – about 30% of those remaining to be repatriated. There are about 45,000 still waiting to come back.”
