The comprehensive report on the investigation of the incident involving the Chief Minister of the Uva Province Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, who allegedly forced a principal from a school in Badulla to kneel at his feet, would be completed and made public within next two weeks, according to the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL).
HRCSL Acting Director (Inquiries and Investigations) Nihal Chandrasiri told The Morning that the council was in the process of finalising the report and it had already recorded the statements from all parties involved, including the Chief Minister.
Over a year ago, the female principal of a Tamil girls’ school in Badulla, who was allegedly summoned to the Uva Province Chief Minister’s house and made to kneel at his feet, has finally broken her silence about the ordeal.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the Centre for Human Rights (CHR) Keerthi Tennakoon has raised concerns over the delay in submitting the final report on the incident which took place over a year ago.
In a letter addressed to HRCSL Chairperson Dr. Deepika Udugama, Tennakoon has urged the council to release the report immediately.
He has also alleged that the council was following a slow process for the investigation on Uva CM’s incident unlike the other matters related to the education sector which the council had previously investigated.
