Report on blockchain tech recommendations in 2022

The interim report that comprises recommendations on digital banking, blockchain technology, and cryptocurrency was submitted to Parliament on Tuesday (23). These recommendations are expected to provide information to the Cabinet of Ministers on the formulation of rules and regulations that can be imposed for the purpose of attracting investments to companies in the areas related to digital banking, blockchain technology, and cryptocurrency. Prior to the submission of said recommendations, the Cabinet of Ministers granted approval for the appointment of a committee in this regard on 5 October 2021. The committee was composed of eight members and chaired by Sujeewa Mudalige. Accordingly, the Cabinet granted approval for the proposal by Minister of Development Co-ordination and Supervision Namal Rajapaksa to submit the final report of the committee on 30 June 2022. Cabinet approval was also granted for the appointment of two other technical professionals to the aforesaid committee in their relevant fields. However, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) said that the transactions would be conducted at their own risk.
