Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena informed Parliament today (7) that annual reports, audit reports and other such reports presented to the House would no longer be made available as printed copies due to the high costs incurred in printing them.
The Speaker also noted that the Parliamentary Business Committee had discussed the matter on 2 June and decided that the cost of printing reports should be slashed as well as the cost of presenting the reports as soft copies on CDs.
The Committee has noted that the economic crisis has made it difficult to access large quantities of CDs as well as the environmental impact it would have during the disposal stage.
The Speaker informed the House that it has therefore been recommended that all reports in the future would be available on the Parliament website and be sent to all MPs via email.
