A special gazette notification on the resumption of civilian life amidst the coronavirus threat will be issued today, The Sunday Morning learnt. Speaking to The Sunday Morning, President’s Media Division Director General Mohan Samaranayake said the relevant gazette notification was being prepared by the legal consultants together with the relevant authorities and that it would be issued soon. Meanwhile, a media statement issued by the Presidential Secretariat last week, noted that civilian life and state and private sector activities will commence from tomorrow (11) onwards, while the curfew is in force in the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, and Puttalam. Heads of institutions are advised to make the necessary arrangements, taking into consideration the required number of employees to run their organisations. In addition, the general public was advised to refrain from unnecessary gatherings. People, except those who are essentially required to report to work, are requested to remain in their homes, and people are allowed to leave their homes to purchase essential items such as food and medicines. According to Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ajith Rohana, the last digit NIC rule will be in effect in areas where the curfew is in force from tomorrow onwards and the system does not apply to areas where the curfew is relaxed. Meanwhile, the expressways will also be completely open to the public starting from tomorrow, including the Southern Expressway, the Outer Circular Expressway, and the Colombo-Katunayaka Expressway.
