Revised dates set for 2021 Scholarship, O/L, A/L exams

02 Nov 2021

  • Scholarship on 22 Jan, A/L from 7 Feb-5 March, O/L from 23 May-1 June
BY Buddhika Samaraweera The Government yesterday (2) announced the revised dates for the Grade Five Scholarship, GCE Advanced Level (A/L), and GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) examinations for the year 2021, with the Grade Five Scholarship exam to be held on 22 January 2022, the A/L exam to be held from 7 February to 5 March 2022, and the O/L Exam to be held from 23 May to 1 June 2022. The Department of Government Information stated that the said schedule was tabled by Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardena at the cabinet meeting held on Monday (1). As the students should be given sufficient time to complete their studies after the reopening of schools, the Cabinet had decided to grant its approval for the schedule presented by Gunawardena. After nearly six months of closure, schools were fully reopened for grade five students on 25 October, while O/L and A/L classes are scheduled to be reopened on 8 November. The Ministry of Education and the Department of Examinations, on 7 October, decided to reschedule the Grade Five Scholarship and GCE A/L examinations that were earlier announced to be held in November 2021. Speaking in Parliament, State Minister of Education Reforms, Open Universities, and Distance Learning Promotion Susil Premajayantha said the Grade Five Scholarship and A/L examinations should be rescheduled as the syllabi had not been fully covered due to the closure of schools for a long time, given the Covid-19 pandemic situation. The Grade Five Scholarship and A/L examinations were earlier scheduled to be held in October 2021, and then Minister of Education Prof. G.L. Peiris late last July said that the two examinations would be held in November 2021.
