The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has printed Rs. 119 billion on Wednesday (6), under CBSL Senior Deputy Governor Mahinda Siriwardana, The Morning Business learns.
It appears that there are no legal issues in the CBSL continuing to print money despite the absence of a Governor of the CBSL and a Finance Minister, due to the appointment of CBSL Deputy Governor Mahinda Siriwardana as a Senior Deputy Governor of the CBSL by the Monetary Board.
Following the announcement yesterday (7) that the CBSL had printed Rs. 119.1 billion on Wednesday, a common question repeated on social media was whether it was legal for the CBSL to print rupees in the absence of a Finance Minister and before the new Governor of the CBSL had taken office.
