Minister of State Shehan Semasinghe says that the fourth installment of the Rs. 5,000 allowance for the people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic will commence tomorrow (02).
This allowance is available to low income families who receive various government benefits as well as families who are unable to sustain their livelihood due to existing travel restrictions.
The government has estimated to spend nearly 30 billion rupees on this.
If the allowance currently received by a family receiving benefits under any government subsidy scheme is less than Rs. 5,000, the relevant arrears will be paid under this.
Only one allowance will be given for a family and the Samurdhi allowance paid on the 7th of every month along with the arrears will start from tomorrow.
