Rumesh appointed Sri Lanka Coach for Zimbabwe series

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) yesterday (4) announced the appointment of Rumesh Ratnayake as the interim Coach of the national cricket team for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour of Sri Lanka.

Ratnayake is currently serving as a Fast Bowling Coach at the SLC High-Performance Centre.

West Indies are scheduled to play three One-Day Internationals in Kandy between 16 and 21 January.

Ruvin Peiris Batting Coach

In the meantime, Ruvin Peiris has been appointed as Sri Lanka Batting Coach, also for the series against Zimbabwe.

Peiris is also currently attached to the SLC High-Performance Centre as a batting coach. His appointment is also an interim arrangement, SLC had added.

SLC is now in the process of interviewing candidates for the post of permanent Sri Lanka Coach after former Head Coach Mickey Arthur’s two-year tenure ended in December.

Mahela to leave for U-19 World Cup

Meanwhile Mahela Jayawardena, the newly-appointed Consultant Coach of the Sri Lanka national teams, will leave for the West Indies on Sunday (9) to join the Sri Lanka Under-19 team, which is already in the Caribbean, to take part in the International Cricket Council (ICC) U-19 World Cup.

He will be with the Sri Lanka U-19 team during the entire World Cup tournament, to be staged from 14 January to 5 February in the West Indies countries of Antigua and Barbuda, Guyana, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Trinidad and Tobago.
