There is no truth in the rumours circulating on social media that a family member of a staff member of Parliament has tested positive for Covid-19, the Department of Communication of Parliament clarified.
Issuing a press release, the Department pointed out that the circulation of this news was based on a statement made by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena in response to a concern raised by parliamentarian Shan Wijayalal De Silva at Parliament yesterday (8).
Accordingly, the Speaker had only stated that access for MPs and other individuals to the office of the Parliament Service Unit under the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils in Pelawatta was not permitted on Wednesday (7) due to a suspicion that a relative of an employee has contracted the Covid-19.
