19 May 2019

State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardena yesterday clarified that some of the security provided during his visit to Minuwangoda following the mob violence in the area, was not part of his convoy but security already in the area. The Minister came under criticism on social media after he was seen being escorted in Minuwangoda with a large military motorcycle squad, security vehicles, and the Police. In a statement, Wijewardena said that as State Minister of Defence, he is provided with 10 security personnel and two backup vehicles. He said that the additional security provided was part of security already in the area as well as the security of senior military and police officers who accompanied him to Minuwangoda.
