United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe denied claims of sabotaging Sajith Premadasa's campaign. Wickremesinghe was speaking at a press conference today at the United National Party (UNP) headquarters(Sirikotha), premises. "I nominated Sajith Premadasa as the candidate to run the 2019 presidential  election. I will certify that the party mechanism and sirikotha extended its full support to his campaign." Wickremesinghe  insisted that he nor the election mechanism did not hamper the election campaign. He said responsibilities of the election campaign were delegated to ministers and parliamentarians of the UNP. "I took over to improve the votes in the North and the East. Unfortunately, we could not obtain the votes of the Sinhalese majority in the South. This is why we lost. We lost the Sinhalese Buddhist vote, which has never happened before in the past. We should investigate this further." Wickremesinghe also denied claims of financial misappropriation alleged to have taken place at Sirikotha . He said Sirikotha did not take any financial responsibilities and if such misappropriation had taken place investigations should be conducted. "As a Buddhists we should understand our faults and refrain from pointing fingers at others. We can only go forward by understanding this concept," Wickremesinghe said.
