United National Party (UNP) Leader and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has faced much criticism since the days of the Yahapalana Government over his alleged links with members of the Rajapaksa family.
Even his return to Parliament and his actions have been criticised as moves aimed at being supportive of the Government.
It is in this backdrop that Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Sarath Fonseka last Tuesday (20) claimed that Wickremesinghe was allotted time by the governing party to make a statement.
Fonseka further noted that the Opposition had not assigned time for Wickremesinghe to make a statement in Parliament, adding that the UNP Leader had moved an amendment to the no-faith motion that was presented by the SJB against Minister Udaya Gammanpila to fulfil the requirement of the Government and to assist it.
Wickremesinghe proposed that the no-faith motion be amended to include the entire Cabinet of Ministers and the Government instead of targeting only Minister Gammanpila.
According to Fonseka, Wickremesinghe was trying to obstruct the Opposition.
