Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has not given up fight for the United National Party (UNP) leadership post, United National Front (UNF)MP and Jathika Hela Urumaya(JHU) member Karunaratne Paranavitana said.
Paranavitana was speaking to reporters during a press briefing at the Opposition Leader's Office in Colombo today (5).
Following the UNP Working Committee(WC) meeting held on the 30 of January, UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam announced that Ranil Wickremesinghe will continue as Leader of the UNP.
Paranavitana said the leadership issue will be taken up later as the main focus at the moment was to prepare for the forthcoming parliamentary election
He further revealed that talks were underway with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP) members who supported Premadasa at the Presidential election to join the new alliance.
He added that several new political parties which were not part of the UNF are expected to join the new alliance.
