Sajith requests Govt. to administer booster dose in preparation for Omicron

29 Nov 2021

The Omicron Covid variant has been classified as a variant of concern by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Sri Lanka must speed up the anti-covid booster vaccine says Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa. He made this statement while speaking in Parliament a short while ago today (29). "The WHO has announced that the Omicron variant is a cause of concern. I, myself, am concerned about this. I would like suggest that the Government take immediate steps to vaccinate those above the age of 60 years with the booster dose as a matter of urgency, and also parallelly the booster dose must also be given to those below the age of 60 years and with comorbidities. This includes those with Kidney diseases, Diabetes and heart conditions. This will help us prepare for another wave," said Premadasa. Additionally, Premadasa took the opportunity to thank the Government for the effective roll-out of the anti-covid vaccinate drive that is currently in place. "I want to take the opportunity to thank the Government for the effectiveness in the covid vaccine drive. Praise is due in this matter," he added.
