Sajith willing to give way if party rejects him

United National Party (UNP) Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa today announced that he is prepared to give way if the UNP, by majority vote, decides to pick another candidate to contest the Presidential elections.

Speaking at a special media briefing today, Premadasa said that if there are other candidates keen to contest the election then there can be a discussion with the UNP Parliamentary Group and Working Committee and select the most suitable candidate through a secret vote.

Premadasa said that he had expressed his intentions to UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe in a letter yesterday.

The UNP Deputy Leader said that he will follow the democratic process in the UNP to be picked as the Presidential candidate.

He also said that he has been having talks with several parties, including the Tamil National Alliance and some members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna to obtain their support for the election.
