Sarath Fonseka is jealous of me: Sarath Weerasekara

10 Dec 2021

The verbal discourse between Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka and Minister of Public Security Rear Admiral (Retd) Sarath Weerasekara extended into today's Parliamentary session from last week, with Weerasekara claiming that Fonseka is jealous of him. He made this statement while speaking in Parliament today (10). ”I have a feeling that Fonseka is either afraid of me or he is jealous of me. Today that jealousy has developed itself into a grudge. In English we call this an inferiority complex, as this jealousy has been developed because I was given the Ministry of Public Administration by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa when Sarath Fonseka was not given the Ministry when his party was in power,” said Weerasekara. Weerasekara went on to quote the allegations made by Fonseka last week in Parliament and said that Fonseka has criticised him in a very low manner and had fabricated lies against him. He further added that the plans he has in mind to develop the safety and security of the nation are immense. "I have many goals for the future of this country, with the safety and security of the public kept in mind. My goal is to create a community without fear, where even a woman should be able to go anywhere at any time," added Weerasekara. Meanwhile, in response to Weerasekara's speech, Speaker of the House Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane said that he has instructed the secretary of Parliament to omit unwanted parts of Thursday’s (09) and Friday’s (10) debate which ensued between Fonseka and Weerasekara.
