The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka granted leave to proceed with the Fundamental Rights petition against former President Maithripala Sirisena's decision to grant Royal Park convict Jude Jayamaha a presidential pardon today (23).
Jayamaha was convicted of murder after strangling his girlfriend's sister Yvonne Johnson in 2005 at her apartment complex, and was sentenced to death.
Sirisena granted a presidential pardon to Jayamaha just before leaving office in 2019.
