SC postpones hearing of petitions filed against cremation of COVID-19 victims

The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing of eight fundamental rights (FR ) petitions filed against the cremation of COVID-19 victims. The petitions were set to be heard today, however as some respondents were yet to be served notice due to postal delays including those in the petition , hearing of the cases were postponed to July 13th. All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) Leader and former MP Rishad Bathiudeen, Former MPs Seyed Ameer Ali (former ACMC MP), Abdullah Mohamed Mahroof (formre ACMC MP), and Hussein Ahamed Bhaila (former Deputy Minister of External Affairs 2007-2010), Former Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) Parliamentarian Ali Zahir Moulana, Oshala Herath are among the Petitioners.  The petitions cited Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Secretary to the Ministry Bhadrani Jayawardena, Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe, and the Attorney General as respondents.
