A man who was shot at for forcibly trying to enter a school in Akmeemana today (04) succumbed to his injuries in hospital a short while ago.
Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara had said that the individual had tried to forcibly grab the service firearm of a soldier who was on duty at the Upananda Vidyalaya in Akmeemana.
He had tried to enter the school forcibly and when he was restricted from entering the premises he had reached for the weapon of the soldier guarding the school.
The soldier had opened fire in this instance, injuring the 39-year-old man who was then rushed to the Karapitiya Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
The Police Spokesman has stated that investigations are currently underway with regards to this incident.
