School uniforms to be manufactured locally

The government has decided to manufacture all school uniforms locally to reduce import costs and cloth consumption in the country, starting from 2021, the Minister of Mass Media Keheliya Rambukwella stated at the Cabinet media briefing held today (29).

“We have decided to design the school uniforms in six sizes, similar to the sizes now available in the market, and to engage local tailors to manufacture these school uniforms. This will largely conserve the cloth used for this purpose,” he further stated.

Furthermore, the coupon system will be disbanded and a programme will be implemented to distribute the uniforms to each divisional secretariat, he said.
