Schools rugby returns!

The below mentioned dates are yet to be approved from the Ministry of Education but according the SLSRFA, the provincial tournaments are most likely to go ahead on the following days!:

* Western Province / 18 and 19 December / Royal Sports Complex, Colombo 07

* Central Province / 27 December / Trinity College Grounds, Pallekele

* North Western Province / 28 December / Maliyadeva College Grounds, Kurunegala

* Sabaragamuwa Province / 30 December / Ruwanwella Public Grounds, Ruwanwella

* Southern Province / 31 December / Koggala Free Trade Zone Gounds, Koggala

After 638 days, schools’ rugby is set resume in the island with the Western Province Sevens Tournament scheduled to kick off on the 18 and 19 December at the Royal Sports Complex in Colombo.

During the weekend, the President of the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA), B.A. Abeyrathne, speaking exclusively to The Morning Sports said that they are still waiting for approval from the Education Ministry to resume schools rugby.

On Monday (6), the Health Ministry has given the approval to kick start the Sevens tournament.

The Western Province Sevens Tournament will see 22 teams compete over two days. Central Province competition will have eight, North Western Province will have seven, Sabaragamuwa Province will have five, while Southern Province will have seven schools competing for the title.

The competition will be played adhering to strict health guidelines laid out by the Ministry of Health. All matches will be behind closed doors and spectators will not be allowed at the venues.
