Aralaganwila STF officers were able to arrest seven persons who were operating an illegal cattle slaughterhouse, the Aralaganwila Police said today.
The raid was carried out based on information received by the Aralaganwila Police Special Task Force.
The arrested persons were aged between 38 and 52 years.
Six hundred kilograms of beef was found at the premises.
The Polonnaruwa Magistrate's Court ordered that meat be set on fire and destroyed before the Pulasthigama OIC. The court granted permission to keep the cattle in the custody of the STF officers until the identities of the cattle owners were confirmed.
The Magistrate ordered that the cattle whose owner's identities were not confirmed be handed over to the Animal Welfare Unit.
