Mulleriyawa Police has today seized 17 vehicles that had been stolen and given false license numbers, and arrested three suspects related to the incident, stated Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana.
One suspect has been arrested for forging licenses, ID cards and electricity bills, while it was proven that they were part of a 9-member group.
"The suspects have been known to hire vehicles from a rent-a-car center, following which they would forge false documents, chassis numbers and engine numbers, and sell them to third parties," the Police Spokesman said.
He instructed all vehicle owners to verify the phone numbers and addresses of the vehicle center to prevent similar incidents, and also requested rent-a-car centers to contact the Mulleriyawa Police if such an incident has occurred to them.
