Customers of several banks have complained about major unauthorized withdrawals from their accounts over the past few days, in what is suspected to be a large scale ATM card skimming attack.
Common ATM network Lanka Pay has advised all customers to activate SMS alerts and be vigilant about unauthorized withdrawals.
However chip-enabled smart cards are not vulnerable to skimming.
So far there have been 10 reported cases from Colombo and its suburbs.
It is not yet known who is behind the skimming although investigations are underway.
Since this is a long weekend it is reported that banks have been slow to respond.
