The investigation into the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo, which was the venue of a birthday celebration organised by event organizer Chandimal Jayasinghe and model Piumi Hansamali which took place when island wide travel restrictions were in place, has been handed over to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD), the Fort Police OIC said today.
Earlier, the Fort Police arrested several persons including Chandimal Jayasinghe and Piumi Hansamali for hosting the birthday party which violated quarantine regulations.
Following the incident, the Fort Police also launched an investigation against the management of the hotel for allowing it to host the birthday party.
Accordingly, the Fort Police had recorded several statements from the management of the hotel.
However, the Police Headquarters had taken steps to hand the investigation to the CCD.
Fifteen people who had participated in the party in violation of quarantine rules have been released on bail after being produced in court.
However, they were later placed under quarantine in Passara.
