SriLankan Airlines has decided to shift its head office to Katunayake from the World Trade Centre (WTC) in Colombo in order to cut operational costs, The Sunday Morning learnt.
Srilankan Airlines operated its corporate office at the WTC in Fort for convenience and practical reasons.
However, with the airline looking to cut costs after suffering major losses, it has decided to shift to Katunayake.
“The staff has been informed that there will be at least Rs. 50 million in savings by shifting the operations to Katunayake,” sources at Srilankan Airlines told The Sunday Morning.
However, staff members at the national airline who were based in Colombo are said to be unhappy over the move.
They claimed that it will be an additional travel cost on them having to travel to Katunayake from Colombo.
However, graded staff will be given company transport to Katunayake from Colombo.
The Sunday Morning attempted to contact the top management at Srilankan Airlines for a comment on the move but could not reach anyone.
