"Sinhala Buddhist President" should stop Tamil extremists: Ampitiye Sumanarathna Thero

28 Sep 2020

Ampitiye Sumanarathna Thero of the Batticaloa Mangalarama Buddhist Temple speaking from the site of the harthal in the Batticaloa town, highlighted that necessary security action should be taken by the President against extremism. “If we have elected a Sinhala Buddhist President with two-thirds majority of the vote, and he lets extremism back into the country, it should be noted that we have failed as a nation,” he said. He further stated that citizens of Sri Lanka need to know that there are outside influences in this country that can turn into threats and that they have a right to know who the masterminds behind these revolts are. “All shops in the vicinity of the Batticaloa town have been shut down in a harthal against the government’s ban on commemorating the fallen LTTE Leader Thyagadeepan Thileepan. If we are operating under One Country, One Law, we cannot let the Tamil extremists hold protests like this. I urge the Security forces to question why these shops have been closed and to take necessary measures against them,” he stated.
