President-elect Gotabaya Rajapaksa today acknowledged that it was the Sinhalese majority that secured his win. "I knew that I would be able to win with the sinhalese majority vote. knowing this fact, however, I requested the Muslims and Tamils to be apart of my victory." "Now I request the minority to join me as true Sri Lankans to take this country forward", Rajapaksa said after he swore in as the 7th Executive President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. Rajapaksa took his oaths at the Ruwanwelisaya Stupa premises in Anuradhapura. "I will ensure that all the rights of citizens are ensured irrespective of whether they voted for me or not," Rajapaksa said. "National security will be my Government's main responsibility. I will ensure that all my promises are implemented," Rajapaksa said. He further said he will not hesitate to use his executive powers for the betterment of the country. "We hope to build a friendly relationship with other countries. However we will remain neutral in our foreign relations and stay out of any conflicts amoung the world powers." Rajapaksa said that corruption will never be tolerated under his administration. Rajapaksa said professionalism and efficiently will be the corner stone of his administration while meritocracy and technocracy will be promoted at all times in the government. "I love my country. I am proud of my country. I have a vision for my country. I call all patriotic Sri Lankans to join me in my journey to build a prosperous nation," Rajapaksa said in his final remarks.
