Sirisena conspired with SLPP to make arrangements leading to Easter Attacks: SJB MP

24 Nov 2021

Refuting claims made by State Minister Kanchana Wijesekera who said that it was the Yahapalanaya Government which neglected intelligence advice to arrest Zahran Hashim, and thus assisted in the Easter bombings, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Nalin Bandara said that it was former President Maithripala Sirisena and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) who had made arrangements which led to the Easter attacks. He made this statement while speaking in Parliament today (24). "The document shared by Kanchana Wijesekera is correct. The date on the document shows it was sent on the 19th of May 2018, and in July of 2018 a warrant was issued for the arrest of Zahran. By that time, Zahran had fled the country. DIG Nalaka Silva had then arranged for a red warrant to be issued for the arrest of Zahran. But 5 months and a week later, the 52 day conspiracy began and the SLPP along with Sirisena wanted to overthrow the Government. But, we managed to remain as the governing body, but we did not have a Ministry or a Minister of Justice. This was most probably a plan by the former Opposition," said Bandara. He went on to detail that the State Intelligence Service (SIS) document had 12 points, which was stated by SIS Chief Nilantha Jayawardhane, whereas former Minister of Law and Order, Public Administration and Management Ranjith Madduma Bandara was only informed of 3 points. "After all this, the opposition along with Namal Kumara created a drama that former President Sirisena was the target of an assassination attempt, and with that arrangements were made to facilitate the freedom for Zahran to commit his crime. Instead of probing Nilantha Jayawadhane and his dealings, the Government has now made him chief witness. Sirisena is the same," alleged Bandara. Further, Bandara added that today, such an investigation is going on because of the conspiracies that took place with Sirisena and the current Government.
