SJB briefs EU Envoys on Covid measures, human rights

A delegation of the main Parliamentary Opposition Party, the Samagi Jana Balawegeya (SJB), led by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, met with European Union (EU) Envoys yesterday (27) to discuss Covid-19 pandemic management measures that have been taken by the Government and their weaknesses.  In a statement issued yesterday (27), the SJB noted that Premadasa had met with the EU Ambassador Denis Chaibi, the Ambassador of France Eric Lavertu, the Ambassador of Italy Rita Mannella, the Ambassador of Germany Holger Seubert, and the Ambassador of România Victor Chiujdea to discuss the pandemic response and the issues that have arisen as a result of it.  Special focus had been given to the strengthening of human, civil, economic, social, political, religious, and cultural rights in the country. “The SJB is committed to protecting these rights of the citizens,” Premadasa had further assured the Envoys, the statement said.  SJB Parliamentarians Dr. Harsha de Silva and Eran Wickramaratne, and SJB’s foreign policy development senior board members Dr. Rohan Pallewatta, Dr. Gehan Gunatilleke, and Harim Pieris have also participated in the discussion.
