Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will protest the appointment of MP Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan as the Co-Chairman of the Batticaloa District Development Committee by wearing the black scarf during the next parliamentary gathering, MP Harin Fernando told the Morning.
“We are not surprised by this appointment by the President in the light of recently appointing murder suspects as Parliamentarians,” Fernando further stated, referring to the appointment of Premalal Jayasekara.
MP Harin Fernando also questioned the government’s use of the “One Country, One Law” slogan when criminals were being appointed to positions of power.
Former LTTE fighter and leader of the Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pullikal (TMVP) MP Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan was appointed as the Co-Chairman of the Batticaloa District Development Committee by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Pillayan is currently in remand custody in the case over the murder of former Tamil National Alliance Parliamentarian Joseph Pararajasingham.
