Skincare Guide for The Guys

23 Aug 2020

By Mahika Panditha Let’s get real for a moment girls, how many times have you seen your guy friends, brothers or dad’s, or any other male in your life have a decent skincare regime that is something other than just washing their face with a soap bar or a face wash they find? Personally, I do not know a lot of guys that have a well thought out skincare routine but hey – that’s what this article is for! It is important to always take into consideration age when it comes to skincare because sometimes, some products are too abrasive or not strong enough for the skin. And also, not every skin type is the exact same so it is good to be aware of what type of skin you have. Since we are mostly all young adults, boys – when you are in your 20’s, your skin is more prone to breakout due to the extra oil that is produced. This means that you also do not need as much exfoliation because your skin cells are regenerating faster than you realize. So, thankfully for you – your regimen does not need to be super intense but it does need to be a good one at least so that you can maintain that happy and healthy skin all throughout. Do not fret if this sounds confusing – it really is pretty simple! If you are lucky – you will not breakout unless there is an environmental change but we are focusing on prevention instead of elimination here. It is much easier to do so! So let’s get into it. Look, it is never too early to start taking care of your skin. Now that is the age to be going out a lot and especially in our lovely Sri Lanka weather, your skin is bound to change up and sometimes even act up. But as I said before, it is quite simple to take care of it. It is just a matter of putting in a little bit more effort into it – even if you drink gallons of water, you still could do other things to prevent any harm or damage to it. 1. Cleanse – Dude, wash your face right and do it every night! Even if you are at home all day, you will still be allowing bacteria soak into your skin. It will of course, be worse if you are outdoors and sweating and whatnot. What I would recommend, is finding a good and gentle cleanser that you can use in the night so that you will not feel any strain on your skin if you shave as well. Check out the Janet Ayurveda Soft & Gentle Face Wash – this is sure to do the job! You can even wash clean your face with a hot towel or cold water for a boost! 2. Exfoliate – Even though you do not need to do it as much, it cannot hurt! There are so many easy ways to exfoliate your skin without feeling like it is a whole journey. If you can exfoliate at least once a week or once in two weeks – you will be fine. Check out the Spa Ceylon Face & Body Refining Scrub. It is made from pure virgin coconut oil and will do your skin wonders! Try it out and see. If you are not a fan of coconut, well – Spa Ceylon has a wonderful range of scrubs that you can try. 3. Tone – Balancing your skin tone is important. There are so many options for products in this case, please do not hesitate to ask your friends and family for what works best but in this case, I would highly suggest checking out what your skin type is so that when you do end up purchasing a toner, it does not strip your skins natural oils and damage it. You can use a skin toner after cleansing and exfoliating. Definitely check out the Prevense Balancing Toner which is actually alcohol free which makes it even better! 4. Moisturize – I feel like this is a general one, whether you are a boy or girl. But boys, please – it is so important to keep your skin hydrated and this is a great way to do it! In the morning, you can actually throw on some sunscreen! Contrary to popular belief, it is not only for the beach or sporting events. You are still exposed to sunlight despite not doing either of those things. So make sure you dab some on in the morning. And then, later on in the evening – you can try out a moisturizer like the Kemara Life Moisture Cream. Keep in mind that you do not need to overdo it, if your skin is dry – go ahead and use it but you do not NEED to if it is not. 5. Prevent – As I said before, prevention is the key here! You can never be too careful you know? Anyways, there are a myriad of things you can do to prevent any damage to your skin but please, do your research beforehand. You can maybe go to a dermatologist or an esthetician to help figure out what your skin type is and what ingredients work best for your skin. But, from me – I would recommend having a self-care day at least once a week! Check out some eye creams or anti-aging creams as well if you are leaning towards the late 20’s side. And, lastly, do not forget your SPF. It is one of the most important ingredients you need for your skin! Photos from Janet, Spa Ceylon, Prevense, Kemara Life Instagram Pages
