SL reserves to be strengthened today with influx of over USD 1 billion

Sri Lanka’s reserves will be significantly strengthened today as it is anticipated that USD 1,237,000,000 (one billion two hundred thirty-seven million) will be received, Finance Ministry Secretary S.R Attygalle stated. Accordingly the details of the sum is listed below:
  • USD 787 Mn from the International Monetary Fund (IMF)
  • USD 150 Mn from Bangladesh Central Bank (swap arrangement)
  • USD 300 Mn from China Development Bank
Commenting on this development, State Minister of Money & Capital Market and State Enterprise Reforms Ajith Nivard Cabraal stated as a result of this influx, Sri Lanka’s liquidity will improve and the Forex market will stabilise. “Exporters and importers who expected LKR to depreciate would now do well to convert Forex receipts early and phase out imports respectively,” the State Minister expressed via tweet.
