President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today said he will not hesitate to withdraw membership from any international body that is continuously targeting war heroes "using baseless allegations". Rajapaksa was speaking at the 11th National War Heroes’ Day event held at the Battaramulla National War Heroes’ Monument today . "Some leaders of powerful nations have clearly mentioned that they will not allow action to be taken against their war heroes. For a small country like ours where our war heroes have sacrificed so much, I will not allow our soldiers to be unnecessarily pressurized by external parties." The President said, under his government, he will ensure that due respect is given to war heroes. "We will ensure that their rights are protected. I will not allow anyone or any organisation to exert undue pressure and harass them," Rajapaksa added. "We pay tribute to all war heroes and their families who contributed to the battle against separatism for 3 decades." He said the highest honour that can be bestowed upon them is to transform the country to a land where every citizenry can live in peace, harmony and with dignity.
