SL to begin administering second dose of AstraZeneca; first dose suspended for now

Sri Lanka will soon begin the administration of second dose of AstraZeneca vaccine and therefore the administration of first dose will be suspended for now, Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera stated. At a media briefing held in Colombo this morning (02) Dr Samaraweera stated, “The number of vaccines Sri Lanka has received is 1,264,000 out of which 923,954 vaccines have been administered. In order to administer the second dose, we have suspended administering the first dose in order to preserve stocks. “We hope that in late April or early May, we will be able to re-purchase the AstraZeneca Covishield vaccine. We are also expecting more vaccines provided free of charge the World Health Organization, GAVI and UNICEF. As soon as new stocks are received, the vaccination of the people will be resumed,”
