By Maheesha Mudugamuwa The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) is currently exploring the availability of international employment opportunities for Sri Lankans, The Morning learnt. Speaking to The Morning, SLBFE General Manager W.M.V. Wansekara said many Sri Lankans were currently on the lookout for foreign employment opportunities despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, and the Bureau was currently exploring the possibilities and the available countries. He said: “The Middle Eastern countries already expressed their willingness to accept the employees who returned to Sri Lanka due to the Covid-19 threat. Korea already opened to allow migrant workers to enter. Likewise, we are exploring more opportunities.” When asked whether new discussions were held recently on getting more job quotas, Wansekara said these discussions with other countries were yet to begin. Meanwhile, State Minister of Foreign Employment Promotions and Market Diversification Piyankara Jayaratne stressed that the smuggling of migrant workers on tourist visas would be completely stopped in the future, and stern legal action would be taken against those involved in rackets of sending migrant workers overseas on tourist visas for employment.
